What is single status certificate & what’s the procedure to get it in karnataka? What is single status certificate in Karnataka? Single status certificate has its meaning hidden in its name. It is an authentic legal evidence of an individual’s single status . Be it an offer letter or registration for passport, one must mention one’s marital status. Ticking on ‘single’ status declares that the person is single. Therefore, this certificate is also known as single status certificate/unmarried certificate/certificate of First Marriage). Why it is needed in Karnataka? Generally, many countries ask an NRI or a foreigner to showcase single status certificate for marriage registration. So, a person requires it if he/she intends to solemnize marriage with a foreigner. For example, an Engineer belongs to Mysore shifted to Malaysia for job . The emigrant intended to marry with the native of that country. But the government of the Malaysia may reject his request until he presented single status certificate/ unmarried certificate issued by Revenue department in Karnataka . What are the documents needed TO GET unmarried certificate? • Photocopy of the passport (first and last page) • Birth certificate • Aadhar • Ration CARD • Passport Copy • An affidavit stating that the applicant is not yet married. (date is also mentioned) What’s the procedure to get unmarried certificate? • The applicant should visit to Tahsildar/VAO office (if the applicant native is in Karnataka) Or, an NRI can visit to the Indian High Commissioner with the foregone documents (if he/she lives abroad). Note : • All the documents should be duly notarized. • Keep a 20 rupees stamp paper for affidavit and write the statement. Then, notarize it too. • Submit all the documents to the Tahsildar/VAO office authority with the requisite fee. • Normally Within 30 days, a police inquiry will be conducted if required. • Be ready with at least 2 witnesses. They can be the neighbours. • After police verification, the papers will be sent to the Tahsildar /VAO office for final process. • Thereafter, the single status certificate will be issued to the applicant. After getting original single status certificate , you can get apostille attestation within 4 days in Karnataka . Without attestation the Malaysian registration department will not accept the single status certificate issued in Karnataka
